Privacy Policy — RankingCheck

Overview
RankingCheck is built with privacy as a default, not an afterthought. The app does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. Everything happens on your device.
Data Collection
We collect nothing.
RankingCheck does not collect:
- Personal information of any kind
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or crash reports
- Location data
- Contacts, photos, or any other device data
How the App Works
RankingCheck fetches publicly available App Store chart data from Apple's iTunes RSS API, the same data anyone can access in a browser. This data consists solely of app rankings, names, and categories. It is not associated with you or your device in any way.
All data fetched by the app, including ranking history, tracked apps, and snapshots, is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. It never leaves your device. It is never sent to any server. There is no server.
Third-Party Services
RankingCheck does not use:
- Analytics SDKs (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude)
- Advertising networks
- Crash reporting tools
- Social login or OAuth providers
The only external requests the app makes are to Apple's public iTunes API to retrieve chart data.
Notifications
If you grant notification permission, RankingCheck uses iOS local notifications to alert you when your app's ranking changes. These notifications are generated entirely on-device. No notification server is involved. Your notification preferences are stored locally and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.
Background Refresh
RankingCheck uses iOS Background App Refresh to periodically check rankings while the app is not open. This feature makes network requests solely to Apple's public API. No data from these requests is transmitted to any third party.
Widgets
The home screen widget reads data written by the main app to a shared local storage container (App Group). No network requests are made by the widget itself. All data displayed in the widget originates from your device.
Data Retention
All data stored by RankingCheck, including your tracked apps and ranking history, remains on your device. Ranking snapshots older than 30 days are automatically deleted to preserve storage. You can delete all app data at any time by uninstalling the app.
Children's Privacy
RankingCheck does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under the age of 16.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published at the same URL with a new effective date. Given the nature of the app, no servers, no accounts, no data collection, material changes are unlikely.
